My Story

Wendy James has always been full of life, passion, and creativity.

From her teenage years, Wendy harboured a deep dream of becoming a writer. Creative writing was always a shining moment in her school days. Friends as far back as Diego Martin Girl’s Primary became her very first audience. While classmates at St. Francois Girl’s College enjoyed her early “publications,” lovingly glued together from copybooks.

A Writers Workshop ad posted at NALIS Port-of-Spain in late 2022 was just the sign Wendy needed coming out from the harshness of the pandemic. A fun-loving wife and mother of four, she began to see her dream more clearly and pursue it fiercely.

At the end of the 12-Week programme in self-publication, despite the connections made and valuable knowledge gained, experience and expertise would still require time and patience. Over the next three years, whenever her 9-5 job as a Sales Executive permitted, Wendy continued to fine tune her writing skills with research and practice.

Enjoying her non-frivolous forties, in her hometown of Diego Martin, she was able to become a self-published author in 2025. The support, love, and guidance from friends and family have never been short in supply, and her book launch was a humbling success and a peek into a world she’d thought out of reach.

An avid reader and massage therapist, she has always enjoyed local and Caribbean authors but now holds a different revere for them, having gone through the process.

Her work is fiction-based and, though seemingly inspired by mundane random ideas, under the surface her works reflect issues that affect and shape our culture: as art imitates life and life…happens.

You can find Wendy in NALIS Diego Martin or Starbucks Couva typing away at a manuscript or reading something recommended by Kavita.smile

Lore Folk … Out From the Shadows

Urban Fantasy Novel

LoreFolk… Out from the Shadows is the first book in a series about local folklore. Based in the 21st century, LoreFolk is set against a modernised urban society, where these creatures live alongside humans. The characters come to life in a way readers can enjoy and identify with, without the Folklore characters losing their essence. A twist in roles makes it a unique telling of the purpose these supernatural creatures serve throughout the generations. The goal is to keep the reader awed and appreciative of ALL Supernatural beings, especially those locally grown.

Highlights

LoreFolk… Out from the Shadows is the first book in a series on local folklore. Writing it reawakened my love for the supernatural as I reintroduced these characters to the young adults in the Caribbean. Based in the 21st century, LoreFolk is set against a modernised urban society, where these creatures live alongside humans.

Could NOT put this down! I’m mad that I have to wait for the next one. Being from Trinidad and relating to much of the story’s locations (Trincity massive), I was held captive. Even if you aren’t familiar with the lore or the setting this will hold your attention. I do love that the author gave some insight at the beginning for those unfamiliar. I’m really looking forward to the next part. This was such a good read!

Meet Wendy

In my hometown of Diego Martin, I became a self-published author in 2025.

So, smack in the middle of my non-frivolous forties, I’ve chosen authorhood as my midlife crisis status. And what a time I’m having.

Cheering me on are my beans- my children. Why beans and not kids, cause I’m not a goat. Though I do aspire to be the Greatest Of All Times, right now I’d settle for a finished manuscript before my self-imposed deadlines.

My husband is there too, patiently waiting for the audiobook of my work.

I continue to hone my craft, and have not singled out any one genre to specialise in. I have realised my style leans towards literary fiction. Research is done with every story plot, as I have neither a PHD or degree, but the single-minded goal to keep readers awed and appreciative of stories local- grown from a Caribbean perspective.

I want to write books we can relate to; I hope I do. If not for the world, I can settle for a select few who like me to see a tiny reflection of art imitating life.

Books sold and money made are wonderful and my goals. However, just as important, I appreciate feedback. So if you read my work and didn’t like it, choose your words carefully and let me hear them.

And if you DID like my work, feel free to babble, bite your tongue, or send an email filled with typos. I’d love to hear from you!
